Do you need an external antenna for your Huawei router?

You may need an external antenna for your Huawei router if:

Which external 4G/5G antenna is best suited for Huawei routers?
Many Huawei routers are compatible with the Maxview 4G/5G 2×2 external antenna. Each Maxview antenna comes with an adaptor that allows you to connect the antenna’s SMA connectors to your router’s TS9 connectors.

However, not all routers allow you to connect an external antenna: notably the Huawei AI Cube and Huawei E5573 MiFi Router. So it’s important to check compatibility in the list below before you buy an external antenna.
Which Huawei routers are compatible with the Maxview 4G/5G external antenna?
Here’s a list of the most popular Huawei router models and their compatibility with our Maxview 4G/5G 2×2 MIMO antenna. Each router uses a TS9 connector, which can be attached to the Maxview SMA connector via the adaptor (included with your Maxview antenna):

How to set up your Huawei router 4G/5G external antenna
To set up your Huawei 4g router external antenna, follow the instructions in this video to mount your antenna in a suitable position, then connect to the router via the adaptor.
You can also find an antenna installer to mount your Maxview antenna in the best possible position, maximising internet speeds.
When this is complete you can simply connect the SMA cables to the router like this (example below). For Huawei routers, you will need to use the SMA to TS9 connectors that come with every Maxview 4G/5G antenna:

Do external antennas work with Huawei MiFi?
MiFi is essentially a small portable router. If it has TS9 connector ports, it may be possible to connect it to an external antenna.
Maxview’s 4G/5G 2×2 external antenna can boost the speed of some Huawei MiFi systems. Check the table above to confirm your router is compatible.
Do external antennas work with Huawei dongles?
A dongle works slightly differently from a router. Instead of connecting to a mobile signal via a router, dongles contain a built-in network adaptor. You plug the dongle into your device via a USB port, allowing the device to connect to the internet.
External antennas usually rely on connector ports to link your network device (i.e. router) to the antenna. Because dongles are portable, they don’t have these ports. So it may not be possible to use an external antenna with a Huawei dongle.
Do I need a 4G or 5G external antenna for my Huawei router?
Whether you choose a 4G or 5G external antenna depends on the capability of your router. 5G-compatible routers can benefit from attracting and boosting 5G signals, while 4G-compatible routers will only pick up 3G and 4G signals.
