Guide To External Antennas For Teltonika Routers
Teltonika is a popular router brand for people looking to get internet in their caravan. But as with many caravan routers, it can be tricky to get optimum signal strengths when you’re on the road. That’s why many people add an external antenna to their Teltonika router.
Adding an external antenna to your Teltonika router can improve 3G, 4G, and 5G signal strengths, depending on the router’s capabilities.

When to use an external antenna with a Teltonika router
External 4G and 5G antennas are designed to:
- Attract better mobile signals.
- Improve internet speeds.
- Enhance internet reliability.
These are essential if you rely on good internet access to work from your vehicle, or you often stay in remote campsites with limited WiFi or mobile network connectivity.
You might also be restricted by where you can position your router for the best signal strengths, or the ability of your router to connect to strong mobile signals.

What’s the spec for an external antenna with a Teltonika router?
Third party external antennas for Teltonika routers must be compatible with in order to boost the signal. They must have:
- The correct antenna connector: SMA male for 3G/LTE/5G routers
- Input impedance of 50 Ω
- Minimum input power of 2 watts for 3G/LTE/5G
- Specific frequency ranges (698-960/1710-2170/2500-2700MHz for 3G/LTE routers, or 698–960/1710-2170/2300–2400/2496–2690/3300–4200 MHz for 5G routers)

Using the Maxview external 4G/5G antenna with your Teltonika router
The Maxview 4G/5G 2×2 external antenna works with several Teltonika routers. It’s designed to connect to the best available network for your router.
That means if your router is compatible with 4G and 3G networks, the Maxview external antenna will find and connect to the best possible 4G signal (or 3G if no 4G signals are available).

Setting up your Teltonika external antenna
You’ll need to mount the external antenna on the roof of your caravan, motorhome, or campervan. Larger vehicles will have space to mount the standard antenna, but we also offer a slim version for vehicles with less roof space.
You can either install the external antenna for Tetonika routers yourself, or find an antenna installer to mount and set up your antenna.
When this is complete you can simply connect the SMA cables to the router like this (example below). For Teltonika routers, you will need to use the SMA connectors that come with every Maxview 4G/5G antenna:

How else can I boost my Teltonika router signal strength?

- Optimising internal antennas — As well as using external antennas to enhance your signal, you can adjust the built-in antennas to make sure they’re optimised to pick up mobile signals.
- Removing signal blockages — Walls, appliances, and other items can block the signal between your router and your device. Move your router or reposition your items to prevent signal blocking.
- Selecting campsites carefully — Staying on campsites that are closer to urban areas can increase your chances of picking up strong 4G and even 5G signals.
