LNB Guide

When buying a satellite system, it can often seem pretty daunting reading the specification, understanding the terms and what they mean for you. One thing people often write about is the LNB. So what is an LNB? This guide explains what an LNB is and what you need to consider when purchasing a satellite system. There are 3 main reasons for selecting the correct LNB.

What does an LNB stand for?

LNB stands for Low Noise Block

What does it do?

An LNB is the plastic receiving device mounted on the arm in front of a satellite system, used for satellite TV reception. This device collects the satellite TV signal waves from the dish and converts them to a signal which is sent through a cable to the satellite receiver in your vehicle.

In the Maxview range there are currently 6 LNB options that we offer.

Can I split my Satellite TV signal using an LNB?

The coax cable coming from an LNB cannot be split, some people may have more than one TV in their leisure vehicle, so certain LNB types including Twin and Quad LNBs allow more than one TV user at a time for added TV viewing flexibility.

Twin LNB

Twin LNB options provide 2 connections for the operation of a second TV/receiver or receiver with hard drive recording function. Ideal for use with Free To Air Satellite Receivers and Freesat Satellite Receivers.

Quad LNB

Quad LNB’s will provide 4 connections for up to 4 TV’s, or a combinations of receivers with hard drive function. Ideal for use with Free To Air Receivers and or Freesat receivers.

For Sky Q™ and Free To Air

This option is available on our Connect and Target systems, this uses a quad LNB along with other specific parts making it suitable for use with Sky Q satellite receivers and TV/Free to Air Satellite Receivers. Giving extra flexibility if you want more than one satellite receiver type option.

Sky Q™/wideband LNB (Please refer to your receiver’s compatibility)

For use with Sky Q™ satellite receivers. For further details on how to receive SKY Q™ please click here. There are also some new models of Freesat boxes available where you are able to use this type of LNB which allows you to record up to 4 programmes at once.

Skew LNB

If you need further footprint coverage when travelling through Europe, then we recommend the Automatic Skew LNB option. For more detailed information on what a skew LNB is then please see link.

What happens if I want to change my satellite receiver in the future, allowing me to watch SKY Q, can I simply upgrade my system to this?

The answer is yes, on most Maxview satellite system models, we offer Sky Q Upgrade kits, which are available on the following satellite system models.
