Satellite Receiver Guide

The best way to get great TV reception whether you tour in the UK or abroad is to use a satellite system. This guide is to help you understand different satellite receivers and their compatibility.

Firstly the Satellite System with LNB and the receiver need to be compatible with one another.

What is an LNB?

The LNB options depend on the amount of TV’s you would like to view and the type of satellite receiver you will be using. Before you decide which LNB option you will need to determine your satellite receiver type. This in turn will dictate the type of LNB you will need.

For instance,

If you have a Sky Q™ receiver you will need a Sky Q™ (wideband) compatible LNB. The amount of TV’s – For example: Single LNB for one TV, Twin LNB for two etc.

Something else you also may wish to consider is more and more satellite receivers or integrated TVs often include Smart functions such as apps for on demand TV. Internet is required for this and you could use our Roam system to enable you to access of these features if available on your device.

Any of these are compatible with our satellite systems (example pictures only, models may vary)

Freesat Satellite Receiver
(Can be taken from home if you already have one) Sometimes in-built/integrated with TV’s

Contract: No contract or subscription required

Powering: Normally 230V

For use in the UK & Europe: Yes (within footprint area)

Type of LNB you will need: Single or Twin UK TV Channels: 170+ – Including Radio
European Channels: No

HD Channels: Yes if you have an HD version

There are also some new models of Freesat boxes available where you are able to use a wideband LNB (sometimes known as a Sky Q™ LNB) this allows you to record up to 4 programmes at once. Visit www.freesat.co.uk for more details

SKY HD or SKY + Box
(Box taken from home)

Contract: Yes to access subscription channels and record etc (no contract will mean access to the free channels available only)

Powering: 230V For use in the UK & Europe: Full UK and European Coverage (within footprint area)

Type of LNB you will need: Twin

UK TV Channels: Same channels you would at receive at home. Channels dependent on chosen Sky Package (check footprint area if outside of UK)

HD Channels: Yes depending on subscription

SKY Q™ Box 
(Main Box taken from home)

Sky Q™ is different from any previous editions of SKY TV™, Sky +, Sky HD etc in the way the system receives the TV signal. Sky Q™ requires a specific model of satellite system, most of our systems are available in Sky Q™ compatible models.

Contract: Yes a contract will be required

Powering: 230V

For use in the UK & Europe: Full UK and European Coverage (within footprint area)

Type of LNB you will need: SKY Q™ (wideband), or SKY Q™ and FTA (free to Air)*

UK TV Channels: Same channels you would at receive at home. Channels dependent on chosen Sky Package (check footprint area if outside of UK

HD Channels: Yes

Please note the following is applicable if using a Sky Q™ box

You will need a Sky Q™ compatible Satellite System along with your main Sky Q™ receiver if you wish to receive Sky Q™ TV.

*Wishing to use Sky Q™ and/or another type of satellite receiver? If you wish to use any combination of a Sky Q™ receiver or satellite receiver you will require a Connect or Target System fitted with the Sky Q™ and FTA (Free to Air) LNB option.
